Clear Lens Exchange

  • Blurred black and white photograph of people walking in an indoor setting, with some walking past cars or parked vehicles, and illuminated signs in the background.

    Dysfunctional Lens Syndrome

Dysfunctional Lens Syndrome is the natural aging process of the eye’s lens. Over time, the lens becomes less flexible and less clear, which can impact both near and distance vision.

    Patients may notice:

Difficulty reading or needing reading glasses

Increased dependence on multiple pairs of glasses

    Changes in distance vision

Glare or halos, especially at night

Frustration with constantly adjusting vision correction

DLS often develops before cataracts are present, but it represents the early stages of lens aging that can continue to progress over time.

    Clear Lens Exchange

Clear Lens Exchange, also known as Refractive Lens Replacement, is a procedure that replaces the eye’s natural lens with a clear, artificial intraocular lens.

    This allows us to:

    Improve vision at multiple distances

Reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses

Address vision changes caused by the aging lens

Prevent future cataract development, since the natural lens has already been replaced

The procedure is very similar to cataract surgery but is performed before a cataract has fully developed.
